Telling others about your unintended pregnancy can be both good and bad. It’s good because you need the support of others, but it can be bad when those you’ve told pressure you to make a choice you’re not ready to make.

Pressure from others can cloud your decision-making. It’s essential to step back and ensure that you’re making your own choice without being manipulated.

If you’re feeling pressured or unsure what to do, schedule an appointment at You Medical. We provide a safe and private space where you can discuss your options openly without fear of judgment.

In the meantime, here are some strategies you can implement immediately.

Strategies For Dealing With Pressure From Others

1. Refuse to Be Rushed Into a Decision

A way to mentally manipulate or pressure you is to insist that you make a quick decision. They don’t want you to take the time to learn about all of your options.

They may say you can’t wait, and they’ll set up an appointment for you. They may even offer to drive you to the abortion facility. Without time to think clearly, they’re hoping you will panic and move forward with an abortion.

2. Insist You Want to Learn About All Your Options

You have three options for your unintended pregnancy: have an abortion, make an adoption plan, or choose to parent. It’s vital to learn as much as possible about each one.

For instance, are you aware of the physical and emotional risks of abortion? Did you know that you pay nothing when you choose to place your child for adoption, and all of your medical and legal expenses are covered? Are you aware of the many resources available to you if you choose to parent?

Get the answers to these and other questions before you make a final decision.

3. Set Boundaries With Your Partner, Friends, and Family Members

It’s okay to set boundaries even with those closest to you. Make it perfectly clear to your partner, friends, or family that you alone will make the choice. You appreciate their advice and concern, but ultimately, you are the only one who will bear the responsibility for the decision that you make.

4. Seek Out a Neutral Third Party

The advice of others is important when they genuinely care about your health, well-being, and future. However, when emotions run high and they pressure you, it can be impossible to know what to do.

You need advice from a neutral, supportive person who listens without pushing their own agenda. Please consider bringing that conversation to You Medical. Our licensed medical staff can provide factual information about abortion procedures, side effects, and risks.

Although we are not a licensed child-placing agency, we can offer referrals to local adoption specialists. You don’t have to commit to adoption to get your questions answered.

Ask us also about the many resources and referrals available if you’re considering parenting. At You Medical, we offer one-on-one parent mentoring and can assist you with housing, medical expenses, food, and other essential needs.
