When a partner tells you she might be pregnant, it can feel like a whirlwind. You might be shocked, worried, or optimistic about what the future holds. You may also want to help, but feel unsure what to do first or what your role will be.
At You Medical, our team supports men, too, because pregnancy affects both of you.
You Have an Important Role
One of the most helpful things you can offer your partner right now is a steady, reassuring presence. Ask how she’s doing, listen without trying to solve everything, and let her know you’re willing to stay engaged.
Many women feel more at ease when their partner is present, asking questions and seeking information with them.
Get Medical Information Together
The first practical step in the process is confirming pregnancy. Your partner can take advantage of pregnancy testing at You Medical so that she can get a medical-grade result in a confidential setting. All of our services are provided for free.
If she receives a positive hcg test at our office, a limited OB ultrasound can help confirm your partner’s pregnancy details, including how far along she is in her pregnancy. Clear information can reduce fear and help both of you talk through the next steps.
Support for Your Role
You may have questions about relationships, finances, parenting, or what your responsibilities look like now. Our team can meet with you to talk through concerns, discuss communication, and help you think about how you can best support yourself and your partner right now.
These conversations are confidential, and you’ll always be treated with respect. We care about what you’re going through, too.
Connections That Help
If you need support beyond the clinic, we can connect you with community resources for employment assistance, housing options, food support, legal guidance, and other services that help stabilize a family during stressful seasons.
If she’s comfortable, offer to attend the appointment with her and be part of the conversation. Schedule a no-cost, confidential appointment with You Medical.
